Colts stay in chase for first in Fox

Only one game was on tap in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Saturday, Dec 9/23 and it was a huge one as the Capstone Colts, coming off a stinging 4-3 loss to the last place Valley Maple Leafs on Friday in Windsor, faced-off against the first place East Hants Penguins in the Fred Fox Division.  Liam Andrews with his 14th and 15th goals of the season was enough to give th Colts a huge 4-3 win in overtime.  Andrews 15th goal of the seson being the overtime winner just 50 seconds into the five-minute sudden death overtime period.  Andrews first goal had given the Colts a 2-0 lead entering the second period.  Benjamin Veinot scored the Colts opening goal of the game.  The Pens fought back, knowing a loss would provide them with only a two point margin atop the Fox over the Colts.  Jack Taylor and Logan Durno then tied the game for East Hants in the second before Riley Henman put the colts back in front 3-2 entering the third period.  Only one goal was scored in the third period and it was by Brody Fraser of the Pens tying the game at 3-3, forcing the overtime.  On the night Veinot finished with 1 gol and 2 assists for the Colts while Andrews scored twice and added a helper, giving both players three points on the night.  The Colts enter the Christmas break trailing East Hants by 4 points in the race for first place but do hold a game in hand.  Their next action after the Christmas break will be Friday, Jan 5th/24 at C.F.B. Shearwater when they host the 6-10-1 Brookfield Elks.  East Hants is now off until Friday, Jan 12/23.

Notes:  It was the second time these two clubs met each other this season, both games gong into overtime with both teams recording 4-3 wins.
