Scotians trip up Pirates 3-1
In what ended up being the final Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Game prior to the 2023 Christmas Break in the schedule, the Pictou County Scotians pulled out a 3-1 win over the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates Sunday evening in Trenton. The teams were scoreless after one period and Ryan Frizzle put the Scotians up 1-0 after forty minutes. Will Mierau gave the Scotians a 2-1 lead in the second before Matthew Ellis brought the Pirates back to within one. Nate Supryka who is currently the League’s Number three goal scorer potted his 14th of the season into an empty net with 1:09 to play and provide the Scotians with their 3-1 final. Port Hawkesbury ran into plenty of penalty difficulty in this contest drawing six of eight minors in the second period and playing two men short for the final 1:59 of the second. They then took 3 consecutive minors in the game’s final 16 seconds giving the Scotians another 5 on 3 advantage. The Strait did outshoot Pictou 41-30. The Strait Pirates will not return to the ice until they face the Membertou Jr. Miners at 7:30 on Friday Jan 5th in the Strait.
