Fraser records shut-out

From a couple of outstanding games in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Friday, Jan 5, the Brookfield Elks coming off a superb start despite losing 2-1 to the Capstone Colts Friday, fell apart abysmally Saturday afternoon as they were throttled by the South Shore Lumberjacks 10-2 trailing 2-0 and 6-0 after the first and second periods.  Daniel Kline and Daniel LeBlanc both scored a pair of goals for the Lumberjacks with a single goals going to David Graham, Aaron Lane, Owen Cleary, Ethan MacVicar, Aiden Fisher and Owen Osborne who also collected a pair of assists.  Both Brookfield goals were scored in the third period and came off the sticks of Adriel Schwarz and Dawson Blanchard.  South Shore outshot the Elks 47-28.  The Lumberjacks won their 13th game in 18 starts and now get ready for the Sackville Blazers who they will play in Sackville Monday night at 7:30 p.m.  Four points currently separate the fourth place Blazers and third place Bridgewater based team.  In one other game Saturday:

In a span of 1:03 in the first and second periods Saturday evening at Membertou, Tyson LeFrense scored twice for the Jr. Miners to put them on their way to a 5-0 win over arch-rival Eskasoni.  LeFrense scored with seven seconds to play in the opening period and then made it 2-0 Jr. Miners 56 seconds into the second period.  Sonny Kabatay scored on a penalty shot to put the Jr. Miners up 3-0 before Trey Sturge and Alexander Chenhall scored 55 seconds apart mid-way through the second for Membertou’s fourth and fifth goals of the game.  There was no scoring in the third period in a game which proved to be fierce as 186 penalty minutes were doled out including 2 match penalties,  2 major penalties for fighting, 4 game misconducts and 9 ten-minute misconducts.  Eskasoni only managed 17 shots on Membertou goalie Lucas Fraser who notched his first shut-out of the season while Membertou recorded 44 shots on net.  The win for the Jr. Miners improved their record to 14-7-0 on the season.
