Scotians rally to defeat Eskasoni

t appeared for a short time that the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles and the Pictou County Scotians would battle to the very end for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Sid Rowe Division but the Scotians current streak of six wins in their past eight games has vaulted them nine points ahead of the fifth place Jr. Eagles.   The Scotians latest win came in Eskasoni Sunday as the Jr. Eagles staked themselves to a 3-0 lead after twenty minutes but allowed the Scotians to score three times in the game’s final 6:44 to take home a 5-4 verdict.  The Jr. Eagles had given themselves period leads of 3-0 and 3–2 before their third period collapse.  Joshua Novak and Arlen Denny scored 11 seconds apart after Curtis Novak had put the Eagles up 1-0 in the first period.  The Scotians then came back with a pair in the second as Matt Carson netted his 20th of the season, only one goal behind the Penguins Devin Meagher for the League Goal Scoring Lead. and Thomas Kennaley scored.
 
In the third Keagan Geizer put the Jr. Eagles in front 4-2 before the late rally by the Scotians in the final 6:44 as Ryan Frizzle, Nate Supryka scored goals 37 seconds apart and the Scotians won it with only 2:15 left in regulation on a goal from Avery MacLeod.  Will Mierau contributed three assists for the Scotians while Kennaley also had a pair of assists to go along with his goal and Joshua Novak did likewise in a losing cause for the Jr. Eagles who are now 8-18-0 on the season for 16 points compared to the Scotians 12-16-1 record for 25 points.  The two clubs have played three times this season with Pictou winning all three including a 7-6 overtime win while outscoring the Jr. Eagles 21-12.  They have one game left to play in the regular season and that is coming up Sunday, Feb 18 in Pictou.  The Scotians outshot the Jr. Eagles 44-36.
