The Capstone Colts kept moving toward clinching first place in the Fred Fox Division in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Play last night at home at the Old C.F.B. Shearwater Forum as they easily took care of the Sackville Blazers 7-2. The Colts did not waste anytime in securing their 23rd win in 29 games, scoring five times in the opening period to take a 5-0 lead after one. Liam Andrews took over the League Lead in goals with 23 as he scored a pair to give him his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season. Noah Latimer also scored a pair for the Colts with singles going to Cody Garcin, Cooper Puma and Nix Xidos. Garcin and Xidos both added a pair of assists to complete three point nights while Latimer chopped in with an assist for a three point night as well. Tyler Pottier and Elijah Riveria notched the Blazer goals who fell to 15-10-4 but still have secured the fourth and final playoff position in the Fox Division. East Hants 6 Valley Maple Leafs 2
The Valley Maple Leafs seemingly did not have the legs in their game with the Penguins as they were playing their fourth game in eight nights. Connor McNamara scored three times , two in the second period and another in the third. Brody Fraser and Jayson Hanson had power-play goals for the Pens with Blake Irvine adding the other East Hants goal. The Pens outshot the Leafs 36-29. Nick Goodwin and Max Hilton-King replied for the Leafs. Noah Comeau recorded three assists for the Pens to give him 24 on the season along with 32 points as he took over the League Lead in Assists.
Pictou 3 Antigonish 2
The Jr. Bulldogs lost only their second game in regulation all season as they fell to the Pictou County Scotians 3-2 thanks to a last second goal by Jack Tompkins with only 55 seconds left in regulation. Owen Juurlink tied it for the Bulldogs with 1:55 left in regulation before Tompkins goal one minute later. Nate Supryka scored the Scotians first goal and added an assist to remain atop the League Lead in points with 39. Supryka’s goal was the only one of the first period and came 37 seconds after the opening face-off. Venel Campbell of the Bulldogs and Cale McLaughlin of the Scotians traded goals in the second period to give the Scotians a 2-1 lead after forty minutes. The Bulldogs despite the loss seemingly outplayed the Scotians outshooting them 46-19 with Jack Cameron being extra sharp in the Scotians net blocking 44 of the 46 shots he faced. The Jr. Bulldogs are now 24-2-2 for 50 points and four games remaining in their regular season.
Port Hawkesbury 5 Membertou Jr. Miners 1
The Strait Pirates still know it will be tough with Membertou holding two games in hand on them but the Strait did what they had to at home Friday evening sidelining the Jr. Miners 5-1 to move back into a second place tie in the Sid Rowe Division. The Jr. Miners are now 16-9-1 and the Strait 16-11-1. Alexander Chenhall opened the game’s scoring for the Jr. Miners only 2:46 into the opening period, not realizing it would be the Jr. Miners goal of the evening. Landon MacIntosh and Sam Beaton scored for the Pirates in the first to give them a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes and Cadyn Power made it 3-1 after two periods with his second period goal for the Pirates. Chase Ellis and Matthew Ellis tallied insurance goals in the third for Port Hawkesbury. Brandon Connors was strong in nets for the Pirates stopped 35 of 36 Jr. Miner shots as Membertou outshot the Strait 36-27.
