23-24 NSJHL Regular Season concludes
The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League’s 192 game regular season is now complete as the Brookfield Elks despite missing the playoffs and having no chance to make them as a result of last night’s outcome, stood tall and took the Sackville Blazers into sudden-death overtime before falling 4-3 at home. It was only last week in Sackville when the Blazers also defeated the Elks 4-3 in overtime.
Sam Rogers tied the game act 3-3 for Brookfield with 2 seconds left in regulation before Logan Mitchell proved the Blazers with their 17th win in 32 games this season with a goal with 2:48 remaining in sudden-death. Calem McAndrew brought the Elks to within 3-2 in the third after Stephen Purdy’s power-play goal put the Blazers up 3-1 early in the third. Ryan MacIntyre gave the Blazers an early 1-0 lead before Bailey Conrad made it 2-0 Sackville in the second. McClellan Cale continued his torrid scoring streak as he brought the Elks to within 2-1 before the second period concluded. Sackville outshot Brookfield 52-43 as Ben Etsell stopped 40 of 43 shots in the Blazers net while Pablo De Larrinaga stopped 48 of the 52 shots he encountered.
The Blazers finished the season with a 17-10-5 record for 39 points and fourth place in the Fox Division while the Elks finished at 10-18-4 for 24 points and fifth place in the Fox. With the win Tuesday night, the Blazers and Elks concluded their season series with Sackville going 3-1-0 and the Elks 1-1-2 with Sackville outscoring Brookfield 11-9.
The Blazers will now prepare for their opening round of the playoffs against the 24-6-2 Capstone Colts. The two teams will play three games in four nights this weekend with the opening two in Shearwater and the third back in Sackville Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
