23-24 League Award Winners Announced
The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League announced award winners for 2023-24 and Nate Supryka of the Pictou County Scotians has been named League MVP for his outstanding work while also capturing the League Scoring Championship with 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points in 23-24.
Two South Shore Lumberjack players won individual awards. The Rookie of the Year is Cohen Westlake who had a season no one would believe. Coming out of High School, he showed the talent the Lumberjacks thought he could bring to a Junior calibre team and he certainly did not disappoint, scoring 17 goals and recording 24 assists for 41 points, just three back of League Scoring Champion Supryka.
Another rookie straight out of high school was Brennan Coleman. He captured the League’s Most Gentlemanly Player Award. Coleman who was sidelined with an upper body injury for the last portion of the season and missed the team’s final seven games before returning for the playoffs still scored 14 goals and added 19 assists for 33 points while recording 0 penalty minutes.
The defending Atlantic Champions, the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs, took home two awards. Ethan Twolan was named Best Defenseman as he played dynamic hockey showing both offensive and defensive skills second to none. He scored eight times and added 22 assists for 30 points. Donnie Grant was named Coach of the Year as he guided the Bulldogs to another first place finish with a record of 26-4-2 for 54 points.
The Capstone Colts Conar Brace was named Goaltender of the Year following his 15-3-0 season, while recording two shut-outs and having a 2.44 GAA. The Colts were also selected for having the Top Team Executive in President Steve Spindler, Head Coach and General Manager Justin Boone and his entire staff.
