Bulldogs need two regulations Friday
A wild and crazy day at the 2024 Don Johnson Memorial Cup in Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland. The day started with the defending Atlantic Junior Champions the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs losing 3-2 in overtime to the Kent Coyotes from New Brunswick. The Bulldogs struck for a pair of goals in the opening period off the sticks of Ethan Twolan and Nick Marshall while Cole Fraser sandwiched a goal in between to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead after the opening period.
Julien LeBlanc tied the game at 2-2 with only 1:20 left in the second period and that was all the scoring until Jeremie Caissie tallied the game winner with 4:18 left in the first overtime period. The Coyotes outshot the Bulldogs 37-25.
The Bulldogs are now 1-0-0-1 for 4 points but strangely enough a pair of regulation time wins Friday in the final day of the round robin would vault the Bulldogs into first place.
It could happen because the Bulldogs are playing the 2-0-1-0 Kensington P.E.I. Vipers at 12:00 noon, a regulation win in this game would give them7 points as teams earn 3 points for a regulation win and 2 points for an overtime win. Then Friday night, the final game of the round robin pits the Bulldogs against the team stealing the show to date, the host Mount Pearl Blades who are undefeated and perfect at 3-0-0-0 for 9 points. As you can see with the Bulldogs having two games remaining and 6 points available, meaning they could finish with 10 points.
