South Shore Lumberjacks

Lumberjacks Win

Lumberjacks score 5 unanswered goals

The South Shore Lumberjacks had a somewhat of a rough outing in their season opener Friday night against the Capstone Colts eventually losing 5-3.  However, no doubt on their trip to Antigonish Sunday, they were doing some hard thinking and it obviously paid off as the Lumberjacks allowed the Jr. Bulldogs to score first before coming back for five straight goals to win 5-1.  It was the two teams first meeting since last April’s classic Provincial Championship Final in which the Bulldogs won in six games.

After Lorette’s goal for the Bulldogs, Angus Berry tied it at 1-1 before the first period concluded but the second period was all Lumberjacks as they scored three unanswered goals by Kyle MacIntyre, Joe Osborne and Cohen Westlake to go up 4-1 after forty minutes.  Only one goal in the third period and that also went to the Lumberjacks as Brennan Coleman scored on the power-play to make the final 5-1.  It was the Lumberjacks second power-play marker of the game as Westlake’s goal in the second also came with Antigonish short-handed.

The Bulldogs played with an empty net for the final 3:17 but could not muster anything against the Lumberjacks as Ethan Chisholm ended up stopping 36 of 41 shots in the Bulldog nets.  Keegan Greencorn turned aside 35 of the 36 shots he faced in the South Shore net.  Aaron Lane contributed 2 assists for the South Shore.  Both the Lumberjacks and Jr. Bulldogs are now 1-1-0 after the opening weekend of the 24-25 NSJHL season.
