Blazers double up Elks

It may have been the opening game of the regular season for the Brookfield Elks and Sackville Blazers Monday night in Sackville but you would never have known it as both teams came to play in what turned into a rock-em, sock-em affair.

The Blazers and Elks combined for 106 minutes in penalties including 4 majors, 4 game misconducts, 2 misconducts and 26 other penalty minutes while in between managing six goals with Blazers scoring 4 for them for a 4-2 win.

Will Meek scored a pair for the Blazers including the power-play and game-winning marker in the second period which gave the Blazers a 3-0 lead.  It was the only goal of the middle frame as Meek and Tyler Crunew had scored in the first period for the Blazers.

In the third period, a flurry of scoring took place as three goals were notched in 1:24 before the third was even four minutes old.  James Cameron scored the Elks first goal of the year 2:10 into the final period of regulation only to see the Blazers Xavier Rivard tally 54 seconds later to put Sackville up by 3 goals again at 4-1.  However 30 seconds after that, Ben Stewart scored the Elks second goal and it proved to be the final one of the game.  The Blazers outshot the Elks 44-27.
