Elks win in Eskasoni

The Brookfield Elks came up with a solid effort Sunday afternoon in Eskasoni defeating the Jr. Eagles 4-2 to record their first win of the season.  Penalty difficulties impacted the Jr. Eagles as they allowed the Elks to score three power-play goals, two in the first period by Sam Rogers his first of the game and Jackson Spraggon to put Brookfield up 2-0 after one period.  Both goals came in the closing minutes of the opening frame.

 
 
In the second period, the Jr. Eagles Keagan Geizer tallied to pull the Eagles too within a goal entering the final period.  However penalty troubles struck again in the third for the Jr. Eagles as Rogers scored his 2nd of the afternoon on the power-play and Will Singer made it 4-1 with 9:29 to play.  Jesse Ross completed the game’s scoring when he made it 4-2.  Ross also assisted on the Eagles first goal.  Keegan MacCumber recorded a pair of assists in the Elks win.  The Elks now 1-1-0 outshot the Jr. Eagles 48-41.  The Jr. Eagles fell to 1-2-0.
 
Pictou County Scotians   3          Valley Maple Leafs   1
 
It was an exceptionally close game in Trenton between the Valley Maple Leafs and Scotians but unfortunately the Leafs allowed a pair of goals in the opening 3:08 of the third to fall behind 3-0.  The final was Pictou 3   Valley  1
All three Scotians goals came on the power-play,  Jack Tompkins in the first and then Joseph Mason and Drew MacKinnon less than four minutes into the third.  The Leafs goal also came on the power-play from Kayden Kuryluk mid-way through the final period.  Jackson Murphy turned away 31 of 34 shots in the losers net while Eli James stopped 35 of 36 shots fired at him.  The Scotians are now 2-0-1 for five points.  The Leafs remain pointless at 0-3-0.

The Jr. Bulldogs annihilated the Strait Pirates in the Strait on Sunday by a score of 7-0, taking leads of 4-0 after one period and 6-0 after two periods.  Tully Grant’s power-play goal in the third for the Jr. Bulldogs concluded the game’s scoring.  Daniel Chaisson, Luc Sampson, Owen Forsyth and Venel Campbell scored for Antigonish in the first period.  Campbell also recorded 3 assists as well.  Chaisson collected a pair of assists.  In the second when Antigonish pushed their lead to 6-0, Ethan Twolan and Ray MacKinnon connected.  Twolan also recorded an assist for the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs outshot the Strait 33-12 with Adam Tkacz recorded the shut-out for the Bulldogs.
