Burke stellar in Jr. Eagle nets
For the second time this season, the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles defeated the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates, this time in Eskasoni 4-1 Sunday. The Jr. Eagles who improved to 3-3-0 while the Pirates fell to 1-4-2 jumped out in front 3-0 and never looked back. Noah MacKinnon and Arlen Denny scored goals 1:39 apart mid-way through the first at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena to give the Jr. Eagles a 2-0 lead after the first. Keagan Corbett made it 3-0 Eagles before Cadyn Power put the pirates on the board with 5:53 to play in th second. Jonathan Dunphy made it 4-1 Eagles late in the second and there was no scoring in the final period. The Strait still outshot the Eagles 38-28 and it meant Andrew Burke had to keep up his solid goaltending for the Eagles, which he did. Burke stopped 37 of 38 shots and on the season has a .935 save percentage while turning away 244 of 261 shots he has faced in all 6 Eskasoni games. The Pirates hit the road for a pair of games Thanksgiving weekend as they travel to the South Shore to play the Lumberjacks in Bridgewater Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. and then play the Scotians in Pictou Sunday evening. The Strait this season has been humbled by the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs twice but have played exceptionally tight games against the Pictou County Scotians, a game they lost in overtime, the 2 games with the Jr. Eagles which have been close and defeating the Capstone Colts. Eskasoni meanwhile will also be on the road twice on the holiday weekend, playing the Colts in Shearwater Friday night at 7:30 and Membertou on Saturday night in Membertou.
