Blazers score a pair of short-handed goals
Strait Pirates lose 7th game in regulation and 9th overall in 11 games
The Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates saw their record fall to 2-7-2 after giving up two short-handed goals in Sackville Monday night, losing to the Blazers 3-2. Liam Trenholm got the game off on the right foot for the Pirates and provided them with a 1-0 lead after one period. Will Meek scored the first of two Blazers short-handed efforts less than four minutes into the second and the game was tied 1-1 after forty minutes.
The third saw Lawson Cook of the Blazers score the Blazers second short-handed goal of the evening just 36 seconds into the final period of regulation to put Sackville up 2-1 but Cadyn Power came back with a power-play goal for the Pirates to toe the game again at 2-2 with 7:52 to play in regulation. As time was winding down and sudden-death overtime looked like a possibility, Ryland Sherry connected for Sackville with just 2:13 remaining and it was enough to give the Blazers a 3-2 win. The win for the Blazers makes them 8-2-0 on the season as they trail the first place 9-0-0 East Hants Penguins by 2 points. The Pirates now 2-7-2 remain in a three-way tie for the final playoff spot in the Rowe Division with Membertou and Port Hawkesbury.
The Blazers swing back into action Monday nightOct 28 against the South Shore Lumberjacks at home in Sackville while the Strait will host Membertou tis Friday at 7:30 p.m.
