Scotians snap losing streak at 4 - Frizzle scores 3 times
The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles battled the Membertou Jr. Miners hard Saturday night in Membertou but still found themselves three points back of the Jr. Miners for the final playoff spot in the Sid Rowe Division at the end of the evening while in one other game, a winless streak was snapped and another was lengthened. The following is a rundown of play Saturday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.
Pictou County Scotians 5 Brookfield Elks 2
The Scotians snapped a four game losing streak on the road in Brookfield Saturday afternoon after Ryan Frizzle’s dominant three goal and one assist performance and Jack Tompkins two-goal afternoon as the Scotians won 5-2 and improved to 5-4-2 on the season. The Scotians led 1-0 after one period and 3-2 after two period before goals by Tompkins and Frizzle in the third salted the game away for Pictou. Ben Sparkes and William Stewart both scored for the Elks in the second period who saw their losing streak extended to eight games and their record fall to 2-9-1 after getting off to a 2-1-1 start. Cale McClellan recorded a pair of assists for the Elks. The Scotians outshot the Elks 45-42.
Membertou 4 Eskasoni 3
The Jr. Miners improved their record to 4-6-1 after Tyler Seymour snapped a 2-2 tie after two periods with a pair of goals in the third period for the Jr. Miners to put them ahead 4-2. Jesse Ross scored his second of the game with eight seconds remaining to make the final 4-3. Ryland Hannrahan and Landon Clark put the Jr. Miners up 2-0 after the opening period before Arlen Denny and Jesse Ross with his first of the evening tied the game 2-2 after forty minutes. Eskasoni outshot the Jr. Miners 31-27. Mitchel MacDonald recorded two assists for the Jr. Miners.
