Kline scores in OT
Overtime was needed in Bridgewater Saturday evening and the Jr. Miners lose their second of the weekend. The following is a recap of Nova Scotia Junior Hockey action Saturday:
South Shore 5 Brookfield 4 (Overtime)
Daniel Kline’s second goal of the afternoon, this one 51 seconds into the five-minute sudden death three on three allowed the South Shore Lumberjacks to squeak by the Brookfield Elks 5-4 in Bridgewater Saturday evening. The Elks fought the Lumberjacks tooth and nail the entire game taking period leads of 1-0 and 2-1 and then 3-2 with six minutes having elapsed in the third. The Lumberjacks came back with a pair of goals, the first by Daniel Kline’s first of the game and then Aaron Lane to put the home team up 4-3 before Jackson Spraggon tied the game again at 4-4 with slightly more than five minutes left in regulation. William Stewart’s goal put the Elks up 1-0 after twenty minutes. Cale McClellan made it 2-0 Elks 1:06 into the second before John Shubaly scored for the Lumberjacks 52 seconds later. Brennan Coleman’s power-play goal for the South Shore tied the game at 2-2 in the third before Bryson Currie’s power-play marker put the Elks ahead once again 3-2. Kline, Lane and Spraggon followed with their goals to send the game to overtime and Kline’s second goal of the game. Shubaly also recorded three assists giving him 7 points in the Lumberjacks two weekend games. South Shore outshot the Elks 47-31.
Pictou 5 Membertou 2
Hudson Clarke scored 18 seconds after the opening face-off but it was one of only two goals the Jr. Miners scored Saturday evening at home as the Pictou County Scotians scored a 5-2 win. Damon O’Neill and Wyatt Spence’s first of two goals gave the Scotians a 2-1 lead after the first period. Jarred Hicks tied the game in the second but the Scotians Brett Murphy and Spence with his second put Pictou up 4-2 going to the third period. Carter Hood of the Scotians scored the lone goal of the third period. Spence also picked up an assist while Max Greatorex collected a trio of assists for the Scotians. Lane Lochead collected a pair of assists for the Scotians and is now tied for the league scoring lead with Owen Forsythe of Antigonish. Lochead now has 10 goals and 21 assists for 31 points while Forsythe has 9 goals and 22 assists. The Scotians held a 29-24 advantage in shots.
