Lumberjacks secure thrilling win

It was a game that would keep any hockey fan chewing on their nails, keep their heart racing well above average and even sullen at times but in the end, the South Shore Lumberjacks eked out a 4-3 overtime win Tuesday night in Brookfield as the Lumberjacks after falling behind 3-1, scored with two seconds left in the five-minute sudden-death period.

 
Cohen Westlake who assisted on two earlier Lumberjack goals scored the overtime winner as the Lumberjacks improved to 12-12-0 on the season to move 7 points ahead of the Valley Maple Leafs for the fourth and final playoff position in the Fred Fox Division.
 
The Elks took period leads of 2-1 and 3-2 with Bryson Currie scoring on the power-play and Jack Piper scoring with seven seconds left in the first for the Elks while Matthew O’Neill responded for the Lumberjacks.  a short-handed goal with the Elks playing two men down by Bryson Currie put the Elks ahead 3-1 with 11:55 to play in the second.  The Lumberjacks had taken a pair of penalties ten seconds apart at 13:28 and 13:18.  Currie’s goal was his second of the evening and he also collected an assist.  Kyler Lohnes who also collected a pair of assists brought the Lumberjacks back to within a goal before the second period concluded.
 
The only goal of the third came from Ethan MacVicar with less than five minutes to play to knot the game at 3-3.  In the overtime, the Elks Cale MacLellan to a minor for goaltender interference but Brookfield was able to kill that penalty off before Westlake who also collected a pair of assists, scored the overtime winner with two seconds left in sudden-death.  Daniel Kline picked up a pair of assists for the South Shore while Jack Piper scared once and assisted on another and Jackson Spraggon collected a pair of assists for the Elks.  The Lumberjacks outshot the Elks 48-29.
