Jr. Eagles earn huge win
The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles will need some help, but, they kept their playoff hopes alive Sunday evening at home with a 4-3 win over the Membertou Jr. Miners. The Jr. Eagles currently trail the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates by 5 points with 2.5 weeks left in the regular season.
The Jr. Eagles fell behind 1-0 after the opening period as Ty Oliver scored for the Jr. Miners. The Jr. Eagles bounced back with a short-handed goal from Josh Novak and took a 2-1 lead on Noah Tanner’s goal. Brady Doucette of the Jr. Miners sent the teams to their dressing rooms tied at 2-2 after forty minutes. The Jr. Eagles then jumped in front 4-2 on goals from Dylan MacLean and Kent Wolodka in the third period before Jarred Hicks brought the Jr. Miners back to within a single goal. It was all the scoring as the Eagles improved to 6-18-2 for 14 points, five back of the Strait Pirates who own a game in hand with a record of 8-14-3 for 19 points. Eskasoni bombarded the Jr. Miners net with 56 shots while the Jr. Miners took 24 on the Jr. Eagles net.
The Jr. Eagles will play a critical game in the Strait Friday January 31st at 7:30 before going to Pictou Sunday evening for a 6:00 p.m. start against the Scotians.
