MacKenzie nets OT winner for Leafs
The Valley Maple Leafs kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a huge 3-2 Overtime win over the Sackville Blazers Monday evening in Sackville. The win moved the Leafs to within six points of the South Shore Lumberjacks with the Leafs holding a game in hand. The Blazers meanwhile are at 12-11-2 but have lost all four regular season games they have played against the Valley this season including one in an epic shoot-out in early November in Windsor. The Leafs are now 4-0-0 on the season against Sackville while the Blazers are now 0-3-1 and have been outscored by the Leafs 17-10.
As for Monday’s game, the Blazers jumped in front 1-0 after the first period thanks to a goal by Xavier Rivard. Owen McDermid tied it for the Leafs at 1-1 after forty minutes before the teams exchanged goals in the second half of the third period from Jacob Gerhardt and Logan Mitchell. Braedy MacKenzie then netted the overtime winner to give the Leafs a 3-2 win. Graydon Mole was his usual outstanding self in the Leaf nets stopping 46 of 48 shots while the Leafs took 31 on the Blazers net. Dylan Manning collected a pair of assists for the Leafs who will continue their six game road trip with another contest in Sackville Monday night Feb 3rd. The Blazers are now 12-11-2 for 26 points while the Lumberjacks are 12-12-1 for 25 points and the Leafs are six points back of South Shore at 9-14-1 for 19 points.
