Hope starting to fade for Leafs

Time is slowly slipping away for the Valley Maple Leafs while a key game was postponed in Port Hawkesbury Friday night in the NSJHL.

East Hants Penguins   10    Valley Maple Leafs    1

The Penguins in winning their 23rd game in 27 starts this season blew the barn-doors off their hinges as they crushed the Valley Maple Leafs 10-1 in Lantz.  The Penguins had a huge offensive night from Nick Veinot who scored once and collected 4 assists as the Penguins took period leads of 2-0 and 5-1.  Jacob Reigate scored a pair of third period goals for East Hants including one via a short-handed effort on the Pens 10th and final goal.  Noah Comeau and Connor McNamara scored in the first period for East Hants while Davis Cooper who scored and added a pair of assists, Alex Field and Devin Meagher all scored in the second period for the Penguins.  The Leafs only goal of the game came in the second from the stick of Wilson Davison.  Besides Reigate’s two third period goals and Veinot’s goal mentioned earlier, Ryan Langlois and Chris Caissie tallied for East Hants who are now 8 points up on the Capstone Colts in the race for first in the Fox Division.  The Pens need only one more point to clinch first in the Fox Division and will conclude their season with a three-game road trip starting in Bridgewater Saturday, Feb 8 before going to the Valley Friday, Feb 14 and Sackville on Monday Feb 17 to conclude their 24-25 regular season.  The Pens finished 11-4-0 on home ice this season while they are 100% perfect on the road where they have won all 12 games played to date this season.

As for the Leafs, they remain 6 points behind the South Shore Lumberjacks with a record now of 9-15-1 and visit the Blazers in Sackville Monday night Feb 3 at 7:30 before concluding their six game road trip with games in Shearwater against the Colts Friday, Feb 7 and in Brookfield Saturday, Feb 8 at 4:00 p.m.

Eskasoni — Port Hawkesbury

Inclement weather and bitterly cold temperatures which put driving conditions a far cry from 100% pod Friday night’s vital game between Eskasoni and Port Hawkesbury in the Strait.  The Jr. Eagles remain five points behind the Strait Pirates in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Rowe Division.  They will play a make-up game in the Strait Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. but before that will travel to Pictou for a game with the very touch Pictou County Scotians at 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening.  Besides the two games mentioned, Eskasoni also has one game with Membertou and another at home against Port Hawkesbury.
