Strait Pirates can clinch playoff berth Tuesday
Eskasoni chance at a playoff berth hanging by a thread and Lane Lochead collects four points to improve his League Scoring Lead. The following is a recap of play Sunday night in the lone NSJHL game in Trenton.
Lane Lochead scored the Pictou County Scotians second goal of the game and collected three assists leading the Scotians to a 9-1 walloping of the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles. Lochead now has a seven point lead over Devin Meagher of the East Hants Penguins as Lochead now has 15 goals and 33 assists for 48 points. Matt Carson also had a huge game scoring twice and collecting a pair of assists while Ryan Frizzle registered a hat-trick in scoring three times. Other Scotian goal scorers were Camden Burgess, Cale MacLaughlin and Wyatt Spence who also collected two assists. Drew MacKinnon collected three assists for the winners. Noah McKinnon scored the lone Jr. Eagles goal in a game which saw them being outshot by Pictou 37-29. The Scotians held period leads of 5-0 and 7-1.
The Scotians are now 17-7-4 for 38 points and will finish in second place in the Sid Rowe Division. They have only two regular season games left in their season schedule.
Eskasoni meanwhile fell to 6-19-2 for 14 points and would literally need a miracle now to clinch the fourth and final playoff berth in the Rowe Division. The Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates currently have 19 points with a record of 8-15-3 and need only one more point in their final four games to clinch the final playoff berth. The Pirates also still have a chance at third place in the division as they trail Membertou by 3 points. The Pirates can wrap up their playoff spot when they play Eskasoni at home Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. A Jr. Eagles win in regulation would keep them in the hunt but a win in overtime would eliminate them as the Pirates would still garner a point.
