Blazers clinch playoff spot
Will Meek scored the game winner for the Sackville Blazers Monday night at home as the Blazers defeated the Valley Maple Leafs 3-2 and secured one of the final two playoff berths remaining in the Fred Fox Division.
The Leafs after four wins over the Blazers this season finally lost in their fifth and final meeting of the regular season. Nick Goodwin opened the game’s scoring for the Leafs before Ryland Skerry tied it for the Blazers at 1-1 after the first period. In the second period Logan Mitchell put the Blazers up 2-1. Dylan Manning then tied the game again, tis time at 2-2 in the third before Meek’s game-winning goal with 5:24 left in regulation. Both goaltenders played superltive games as Conar Blackwood turned away 43 of 45 shots directedd him by the Leafs while Graydon Mole stopped 50 of 53 shots driven against him by the Blazers.
The Leafs are now hanging onto their playoff hopes by a single string. After their 0-7-0 start to the regular season, they have bounced back to play .500 and have gone 9-9-1 since that point. South Shore now requires a single point in their final four games to secure the fourth and final playoff spot in the Fred Fox Division.
The South Shore Lumberjacks visit Brookfield tonight seeking that point while Eskasoni plays in Port Hawkesbury. A single point by the Strait will clinch a playoff berth for the Pirates.
