Lumberjacks suffer first loss of playoffs

Fans in East Hants were a little unsure about their Penguins going into their game in Bridgewater Saturday night against the South Shore Lumberjacks.  A win by the Lumberjacks would have clinched the opening round playoff series.  However, at least a fifth game in this series is now required Friday, March 7th with the Pens facing elimination again.

The Penguins jumped out in front 3-0 on the South Shore Saturday night with Jayson Hanson scoring twice and adding an assist for the winners.  Hanson’s first goal came in the opening period and the Pens led 1-0 after the first.

In the second, Logan Durno made it 2-0 Pens, only to see Hanson score for East Hants 56 seconds later and East Hants was in front 3-0.  However it was the final goal to be scored for the Pens as Brennan Coleman came back with on for the Lumberjacks in the second and another in the third.  The Lumberjacks could not manage a tying goal as Fintan Boudreau stopped 32 of 34 shots in the Pens net while Keegan Greencorn stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced in the Lumberjack nets.

Besides Hanson’s three point night, Noah Comeau and Jacob Sanford both collected a pair of assists for the winners.  Game 5 goes back to Lantz Friday March 7th at 7:30 p.m. and if a 6th game becomes necessary, it will be played in Bridgewater the following night on March 8th at 7:00 p.m.

Elsewhere on the playoff front, Game 3 between Membertou and Pictou will be played Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. in Trenton with this series tied 1-1.  The Bulldogs and Strait Pirates play Game 4 in Port Hawkesbury also Sunday evening at 7:30 with the Bulldogs leading the series 2-1.
