The Brookfield Jr. Elks enter each and every season with a positive outlook despite not having a winning regular season record since 2012-2013 when they went 19-10-2. Since that time, the Elks have finished last in their division with a combined record of 6-80-9 in their last three complete seasons of hockey stretching between 2017-2018 and 2019-2020.
The Elks have had a busy summer
Experienced players: Connor Miller (OA) and Luke Fielding (2001) were impressive and improved a lot last season and will be valuable players this season in guiding a team with a lot of new faces.
Goaltending: Danny Walsh (2001) has been outstanding for the Elks and were excited to have him as the man between the pipes for another season.
Offensive: The Elks have a great deal of new faces and talent up front but Chase Nicholas (2004) who the Elks acquired in a deal with the Scotians, along with Cody Jollymore (2004) who the Elks acquired in a deal with the Blazers are two young key players who will log a lot of minutes for the Elks this season adding some fire power.
Defensive: Defensively the Elks have Jacob Bolger (2003) who joined the team last season and after an impressive jr A camp is back to be a top defenseman for the Elks.
Matt Melanson (2001) who the Elks acquired in a deal with the Bulldogs will be a big asset for the Elks on the blue line adding both size and a strong shot.
The Elks will 1/4 of their 2021-22 season in the month of October with eight games including a Home and Home with the Cumberland County Blues this weekend. The second of this home and home goes at 7:00 p.m. in Truro Saturday night at Colchester Legion Stadium as the Elks await ice in Brookfield. They also have road games in Sackville, the Valley and Port Hawkesbury with their other three home games in October against Antigonish, Membertou and East Hants.
